Thank you for your interest in Dr. Answorth Allen and staff for your orthopedic care.  We are dedicated to giving you a premium quality service to ensure a safe and speedy recovery. 

We practice at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, which was recently ranked #1 in the United States for Orthopedics Care by U.S. News and World Report’s Guide to the Best Hospitals. HSS is also affiliated with many professional sports teams.  Dr. Allen is the head team orthopedist for the New York Knicks Basketball Team. Dr. Allen treats shoulder, knee, elbow and ankle injuries.  He also specializes in ACL Reconstructions and Revisions as well as Labrum Repairs

There is also an office in the Omni Building in Uniondale, Long Island and in Fresh Meadows, Queens giving you the expertise of physicians associated with this prestigious orthopedic hospital without having to go to Manhattan. 

Office Hours & Patient Appointments

The Manhattan office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Patient visits are made by appointments only. Patients are seen at the following locations at the designated times:

Billing & Insurance

A new patient appointment with Dr. Allen is approximately $400-$525, not including X-rays. Payment is expected at the time of service and can be made by cash, check, or credit card (Visa / Mastercard / AMEX / Debit). Dr. Allen is an in-network provider with the following insurance companies:

• Atena
• Medicare
• No Fault
• United Health Care
• Oxford
• Oxford Freedom Network
• Worker’s Compensation

You may opt to see us out of network and we will be glad to provide you with a fully itemized bill for reimbursement from your insurance carrier.  In addition, if you choose to stay in-network and do not have an insurance carrier to which we subscribe, we can refer you to a participating physician.  Medicare patients should be advised that your medical bills will be submitted directly to Medicare.  After your appointment, a claim will be filed with Medicare.

X-Rays

In order to have a complete examination it is necessary to have recent x-rays and/or an MRI of the affected body part. Any film taken within six months is considered recent. If you have had an x-ray or an MRI please bring the films and report with you to your appointment. Please remember to take any outside films home with you after your appointment. We cannot be responsible for films left in the office.

If you do not have recent films, you will need to have them taken prior to your appointment. X-rays can be taken at our facility by the BelAire Radiology Department. If you choose to have them taken at the facility, you will need to arrive one hour prior to your appointment time. If you have any questions about x-rays or the associated costs, please call the Radiology Department at 212-606-1694.  Our other facilities have on-site X-ray at a separate charge billed by our office.

Reports & Referrals

If another doctor who is treating you requested that you see an orthopedist or one of our physicians in particular, please inform the office that you have been referred by another doctor and provide us with the doctor’s full name, address, and telephone number.
